"...Learning to Follow Jesus"

I love this little video that was specially produced for the 22nd annual Urbana student conference which is taking place right now in St. Louis, USA. The narrator, Scott, explains a little of his motivation for choosing to move into a challenging neighbourhood in Los Angeles. What stands out in the movie for me is the repeated phrase "...learning to follow Jesus." That statement sums up the essential humility required for incarnational ministry in the inner city. If we move into the neighbourhood with a suitcase full of 'here I come with the answers' sort of arrogance then the likeliest outcome is that we'll be beating a hasty retreat. But if we arrive with a keen awareness that we have 'L-plates' on - then, perhaps, we might be able to make a difference.
